I have seen some amazing ideas for art from recycled materials. A few years ago, I saw a huge wall of used wine bottles at the Tacoma Art Museum. It was a really creative way to partition rooms or just create a statement about how much you drink. This article from Web Urbanist shares some more works of recycled art. And these photos below are shots in my studio of work from Andy at Black Fin Design. I would really enjoy seeing a series in recycled bike parts. Andy’s scope is not limited to recycled art; his commercial work is amazing and can be seen here.

He calls it the bicycle beast and titled it “Been Caught Drinking” because of the posturing, the look of surprise and the raised ‘hair’ on it’s back. So fun, and yep, kids love it.

I really enjoy seeing this little restaurant amongst the bigger buildings of downtown (not too many big buildings anyway). It seems a little defiant despite its welcoming glow and neon open sign. Always rooting for the underdog I guess.

I found a few more inspiring images that I missed while processing. Staring at thousands of images does strange things to your editing. I often find that going back through work, even years later, brings a fresh perspective to some images that might have made the cut. And saving the RAW data is huge in maintaining the value of what you might otherwise consider a bad image. Have a great weekend. Shoot, revisit, repeat.

Here are a few panoramic images from that special place, Beyond Malibu. Having spent two summers as a guide for the program, I look back at these images and remember how great are the outdoors. The challenges of backpacking are rarely experienced in my everyday, but I have some great reminders. The friendships and the change in my soul.
